Aldgate Estate Residents' Association

May Update

We have now recived inital costs from GT for the doors, they say that the full package will be £8.79 a week. You can see a detailed breakdown here.

At the June meeting we will have an agenda item to ask GT to reduce the weekly cost by using the money raised by the "Sinking fund", and by spreading the cost over the lifetime of the doors.

Guinness Court: Security Door System Proposal

The GT technical manager met with residents in November and again in February. We helped check out some of the detail of the proposal and correct some obvious mistakes and this note shows our understanding of the main features of the system.

There is a basic system proposal and then some options that residents could chose to add if they are prepared to pay the extra cost. GT have now advertised the work and expect to choose a contractor in March. They will fix a date to start work after that.

At our meeting in February, the Guinness Trust told us that when they had some definite dates for the implementation, they would let us know. We agreed to work with them to ensure that residents are kept updated with the latest information.

The proposal - some questions answered

How will I get into Guinness Court and up to my flat?

Guinness Court will be divided into "zones". If you live in Zone 1 (light blue on map) you will be able to get into Guinness Court through doors 2 & 3.

If you live above the ground floor in Zone 2 (pink on the map), you will be able to get into Guinness Court through doors 1, 2, 3 & 4 using your fob key. You will then be able to use the stairs or lift to your own floor where you will have to use your fob key again to get onto your landing. You will not be able to get onto any other landing.

If you live above the ground floor in Zone 3 (light green on the map), you will be able to get into Guinness Court through doors 1, 4 & 5 using your fob key. You will then be able to use the stairs or lift to your own floor where you will have to use your fob key again to get onto your landing. You will not be able to get onto any other landing.

How will my visitors get to my flat?
Visitors will have to come to doors 1 or 2, depending upon where you live and use a keypad with intercom to call you. You can then buzz the door open. They can then use the stairs or the lift to get to your floor where they will again have to use a keypad with intercom to call you. You can buzz open the landing door to let them in.

What about getting out?
You will be able to leave the block by any staircase or lift that your landing connects with using a push bar.

What about rubbish bins?
There will be an option to have fob entry to the rubbish bin areas.

Can I go through the Iveagh Court link bridge?
Only if you are a resident of Iveagh Court. This is to allow access via lifts at the south end (right side of diagram) of Guinness Court if Iveagh Court lifts are not working.

What if I live on the ground floor?
You will have a colour video entry phone.

What kind of doors will be used?
The doors will be similar to those in operation in Iveagh Court, we will also have an option for power assisted doors

Other useful information
Replacement fob keys will cost £10-£15
3-4 key fobs will be allocated to each flat.

At the moment we are not sure who will pay, and how much it will cost, but we will try and make sure that the cost is made clear before any final decision is made.
